| VG Maps Added and Game Type Updated | After weeks of debating which settings to keep and which to change, VG has decided on a FFA and Team Slayer game variant. In making the decision, VG's ultimate influence came in the form of MLG. MLG has started their 2008 campaign, and in doing so, as many of you know, have released updates to maps and game types. VG recognizes that the MLG sits atop professional gaming, and who better to learn from than the organization with the most experience? Of course VG has not forgotten about its members. Past polls and input have also been taken into account. Below are the breakdowns of each new map and the changes made to the variant. We stress that each person tryout each map variant and game variant before the Winter FFA. As always, input is welcome. Please let us know what you like and don't like, after all, YOU will be the ones playing it. We will consider all input! Enjoy!
| | Major FFA Game Variant Updates | Looking over MLG settings we found many things that caught our attention.
1. Shield Recharge Rates: 90% We find that lowering the recharge rate of shields gives players less change to hide and regain shields, ultimately allowing pursuers to finish more kills.
2. Damage Modifier: 110% Upping the Damage Modifier by 10%, rewards players who have skilled shooting.
These updates promote faster gameplay.
| | VG FFA Map Variant Updates | The only difference in MLG maps and VG maps are the spawn points. Changes are as follows:
- Sniper spawns 2.5 minutes.
- Plasma pistol spawns every 90 seconds.
|  | - OS spawns in the boxed-in area right in front of default OS spawn (directly under sword spawn).
- Sword replaced by mauler.
- Crates added inside the bases and next to platforms.
- The top areas are now lined with fusion coils to prevent camping.
- Invis removed from map.
- Maulers moved into default shotgun spawns.
- Plasma Pistol added in default Sword spawn room.
|  | - Carbines added.
- Sword removed.
- Rockets added to top middle (Default Sniper Spawn).
- Sniper added to platform below default Sword spawn.
- Battle Rifle replaced Carbine near new Sniper spawn.
- Plasma Pistol added near default Sword spawn.
- 2 Plasma grenades moved from default Sword room to Top Gold Lift.
- 2 Frag grenades removed from Top Gold Lift.
|  | - Four Carbines on map at Blue, Yellow, Forest and Sniper. These weapons will be effective given the condensed nature of battles on the map.
- Sniper moved up to top of wrap-around ramp (where the purple explosive barrel spawns).
- Overshield removed. This change evens out the map by making one side have invisibility and one side have sniper rifle.
- Shotgun removed and Hammer replace by Mauler.
- Carbine standing against ledge on top tree stump instead of laying down.
|  | - Now an even number of frag and plasma grenades on map
- Six Carbines added that spawn in the bases and top-middle area.
- Sniper moved to against the wall and rocket moved away from sniper and towards the "hole. These changes were made to make it harder to obtain sniper and rockets in one move and get away with both power weapons.
- Teleport added below each base that takes you to default Bruteshot spawn.
|  | - Shotgun removed, Rockets placed bottom middle in default shotgun spawn.
- Brute shots replaced by Maulers.
- Power-ups removed.
- Maulers removed from default Power-up spawns.
- Mauler added to default Rocket spawn.
- Initial spawns moved closer to top middle.
